TAIPEI, Taiwan, Aug. 23, 2017 — Imagine a smart elevator system that “learns” which level you normally go to, senses your location through your mobile phone, and then sends a cab down before you reach the lobby. Otis Taiwan showcased technologies like this at the Taipei 101 SmartTrend Exhibition this week. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Otis also illustrated many innovative services, such as its eCall™ mobile app that helps passengers call an elevator in advance, Skybuild™ self-climbing construction elevator that enables builders to complete high-rise projects faster while reducing costs, and other cutting-edge technologies debuting in Taiwan
“Otis is committed to bringing the latest advanced technology to Taiwan and contributing to its Smart City and Smart building initiatives,” said Julie Brandt, Managing Director, Otis Elevator—Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan. “With more than 50 years of history in Taiwan we know how to ensure the daily vertical transportation work smart to keep it moving. We are happy to share how Otis better connects our people, products, customers and passengers with our latest technologies at the Taipei 101 event.”
As a world-leading elevator provider, Otis has partnered with many technical pioneers, including Microsoft and AT&T, to bring technologies to life.
Otis was one of the first elevator companies to use big data – before it was even called that. In fact, in the early 1980s, Otis introduced a 24-hour Remote Elevator Monitoring (REM) system. Through REM, the company has gathered data from 300,000 elevators, contributing to a powerful database that can provide more accurate and timely remote maintenance consultation services. We’re leveraging this experience to create IoT products that address our customers biggest service needs
In addition, the system also facilitates “preventive maintenance.” After receiving “health reports” from every elevator, the system will diagnose and determine the parts that need to be replaced. This information is then relayed to the OTISLINE customer service center automatically so that technicians can prepare the necessary tools and parts before servicing customers.
“We started our elevator business with innovations,” Mr. Ian Lau, Managing Director of Otis Taiwan, said. “Today, we are very happy to drive the industry towards a new frontier by making elevators smarter.”
Celebrating its 165th anniversary next year, Otis Elevator was founded by the father of the modern safety elevator, Elisha Otis.
Otis is the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. Founded more than 160 years ago by the inventor of the safety elevator, Otis offers products and services through its companies in approximately 200 countries and territories. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp., a leading provider to the aerospace and building systems industries worldwide. By combining a passion for science with precision engineering, the company is creating smart, sustainable solutions the world needs.
