With urbanization and economic growth accelerating high-rise building development, China has become the global epicenter of the high-rise building boom. Otis Elevator China Co. Ltd. supports this growth, providing state-of-the-art technologies for the 660-meter Ping’An Financial Center in Shenzhen, which will become China’s tallest building when completed in 2016. Otis, the world’s largest manufacturer and maintainer of elevators and escalators, is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
China’s urban population is expected to reach the one-billion mark by 2030. As urban populations swell, buildings expand upwards to maximize land use. With a strong legacy in leading technology and proven credentials, Otis offers solutions that reduce the size of elevator equipment, increase their capacity, shorten elevator installation lead time, move passengers faster and reduce energy consumption.
“China’s cities are rising ever higher as economic growth and urbanization continue. With a strong track record in the world’s most demanding high-rise building projects, Otis technologies and solutions are proud to support the high-rise green building movement in China by elevating skyscrapers to new heights and new levels of safety, comfort and environmental sustainability,” said Perry Zheng, President, Otis China.
Otis’ high-rise solutions include the Skyrise™ double and super double deck, as well as its flagship Gen2 elevators with ReGen™ drives. Combined, the two products conserve energy and return it to the electrical grid, thus reducing energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared with traditional elevators with conventional drives.
Otis also offers unmatched total elevator and escalator solutions spanning from design and engineering, consultancy and project management, manufacturing and delivery, field operations, service and maintenance, as well as elevator system modernization.
Further, Otis’ elevator and escalator service offering is one of China’s largest, providing building owners and managers around-the-clock technical service support. Through Otis Eagle Service, which is based upon mobile monitoring and communications, the company’s professional mechanics provide timely and effective support service to help customers to minimize elevator downtime and provide maximum safety for the riding public.
In addition to the Otis elevator systems used in China’s current tallest building, the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center, Otis solutions are being installed in many skyscrapers now under construction in China. Otis products can be found in the 597-meter Goldin Finance 117 and 530-meter Chow Tai Fook Center, both in Tianjin, the 300-meter Huachuang Plaza in Changsha, and the 220-meter Yintai Center in Chengdu.
China’s next tallest building, Ping’An Financial Center, will rise 660 meters above downtown Shenzhen and deploy 12 energy-efficient Otis Elevonic® super double-deck elevators to ensure a fast, comfortable and safe riding experience for passengers, while delivering energy savings, increased usable space and time-saving installation for the developer. The super double-deck elevator was invented by Otis in 1998 to allow two cars to use a single shaft, saving space and improving travel efficiency.
Otis invented the gearless traction elevator in 1903, making high-rise buildings practical and ushering in the era of the modern skyscraper. Eight of the 10 buildings to have held the title of the world’s tallest rely on Otis elevators, including the current record holder, the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE.
Otis is the world’s largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. Founded 161 years ago by the inventor of the safety elevator, Otis offers products and services through its companies in more than 200 countries and territories, and maintains more than 1.8 million elevators and escalators worldwide. Otis is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp., a leading provider to the aerospace and building systems industries worldwide.
