World’s first flexible double-deck elevator

Using the originally developed technology from Otis research facilities around the world, the SKYWAY system has given birth to a new elevator concept in elevator: Super double deck.

The SKYWAY family of machines boasts 40% weight savings over the previous generation of DC gearless machines and between 12% and 30% reductions in the critical footprint dimensions.

In order to cope with the SKYWAY system’s top speed of 15m/sec., an oil buffer with a stroke of 5.6m and total length of 13.5m was required. A cylinder of this length has never been developed before, and efforts focused on the cylinder material to ensure its ability to withstand the tremendous forces without bucking.

The SKYWAY system is not just a quieter elevator, and it is the quietest in the industry! Drawing on the advanced technologies and global resources of Otis and United Technologies Corp., detailed analysis of every aspect of the car was conducted from the platform and ceiling materials and ventilation components to the aerodynamics.

The “freshness” of data is critical to optimum decision-making by the group control system. In search of providing more real-time communication, Otis has redesigned the system architecture from the bottom up to accelerate and streamline data communication.
