Otis Korea Wins the Good Design Award 2019 for its ‘Gen2® Life Nova’ Design

SEOUL, December 5, 2019 – Otis Elevator Co.’s Korea-based division received the Good Design Award 2019 for its ‘Gen2® Life Nova’ design. Otis has won the award in three previous instances and is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTC) (NYSE: UTX).

The Good Design Award is one of the country’s top design awards. It has been hosted annually, since 1985, to identify and certify outstanding designs. Contenders are carefully reviewed for their appearance, function, material, and economic value. Those selected for their design excellence are given the ‘Good Design’ mark. The award is organized by the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and hosted by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, Pursuant to the Industrial Design Promotion Act.

“It is a great honor to be the first in the industry to win the Good Design Award for the fourth time and also to win the Red Dot Award, one of the top three international design awards, which was an opportunity for Otis to prove its design prowess,” said Ji-hyeon (Gilbert) Jeong, head of Otis Korea Design Center. “We remain committed in creating customer-oriented and innovative designs.”

Otis received the award for its Gen2® Dynamic design in 2015 and its Gen2® Life Modern Black design and indicators in 2016. In 2017, it won the Good Design Award as well as the Korea Institute of Design Promotion Award for its Gen2® Life Natural Bronze design.

This year, the company was again named a winner with its Gen2® Life Nova design, which cemented its pioneering role in the field of elevator design.

Inspired by “a new rising star,” the Nova design uses bright, high-gloss metallic materials to offer a plush, graceful range of interior options. The new model also offers a mixture of sensational wall patterns including 3D prisms, brushstrokes, stripes, and Saffiano leather for an added luxurious touch. Otis is the first in the industry to use the bright, high-gloss metallic materials and hybrid printing.

The ceiling is equipped with slim LED lighting specially designed to increase ceiling height by 100 millimeters more than previous models. Meanwhile, the use of stainless steel mirror creates a pleasant, spacious feel in the cab. Its user-friendly and ergonomically smart features include edge lighting that diffuses the light to ease the strain on the eyes, and 10key car operating panel, which got a Red Dot Award 2019, that offers ten number buttons that passengers can use to key in their destination floor.
