SHANGHAI, China, June 12, 2020 --- Otis Elevator Co. (China) Ltd. continues to extend its leadership in China’s critical infrastructure segment, deepening its long-standing collaboration with Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) and winning a significant contract with the Nantong Metro.

“Otis remains a major player in the infrastructure segment in China,” said Perry Zheng, President of Otis China. “We are proud to work with metro service providers to help provide easy and efficient vertical transportation in our cities as China’s urbanization continues.”

In its third cooperation with CRT, Otis will provide 207 escalator systems and six walkways to serve Chongqing Metro Line 9. The new east-west line will pass through five urban districts with a combined population of about 9 million, running about 32 km through 24 stations. It is due for completion at the end of this year.

With an urban population of 18 million, Chongqing is a mega-city in southwest China and urban mobility is a main focus for its planners. Otis previously worked with CRT on Chongqing Metro Line 5 and Line 10.

Otis will also provide 85 escalator systems for the first metro line in Nantong, a city of more than 7 million people on the Yangtze River in Jiangsu province. Spanning four districts to connect the northern and southern parts of the city, Nantong Metro Line 1 will run about 38 km and serve 28 stations. It is expected to open in March 2022.

This agreement is especially significant as it marks strong collaboration between Nantong Metro and Otis.
