Incheon International Airport
Incheon, South Korea
Learn how Otis installed the longest moving walkway in Asia
Incheon International Airport is one of the world’s largest and busiest airports. The airport continues to grow, guided by its vision “Beyond an airport, changing the world” and its strategy based on three pillars: digital transformation, sustainability, and artificial intelligence1.
The construction project for Phase 4 of Incheon International Airport focused primarily on expanding Terminal 2 and building a fourth runway.
For this new phase of development, Otis installed an additional 172 elevators, escalators, and moving walkways, including the longest continuous walkway in Asia, to ensure safe, fast, and comfortable transportation for passengers throughout the airport.
Project facts
Unique requirements
With the expansion of Terminal 2, which has quadrupled its original length, Incheon International Airport has invested in various initiatives to improve passenger flow within the terminal, including the introduction of autonomous shuttles and 136-meter-long Otis moving walkways, the longest in Asia. A new landmark for the Korean airport.
As part of this complex project involving many contractors, Otis was tasked with proposing and managing the overall installation schedule. Otis teams leveraged their proven project management skills to plan meticulously in advance and develop a comprehensive schedule covering all stages, from factory order to on-site delivery, taking into account all site-specific constraints (technical, logistical, meteorological…)
The deadlines were met thanks to Otis rigorous project management and effective communication with all stakeholders.
Otis innovation
In the expanded Terminal 2 of Incheon Airport, Otis installed 20 elevators, 80 escalators, and 72 moving walkways to ensure the safe and smooth flow of passenger traffic. The installation includes consecutive moving walkways measuring 136 meters and 125 meters, which makes it easier for travelers to cross the terminal.
For these walkways, Otis developed and manufactured a custom solution, conducting rigorous quality checks to ensure excellence. Their design includes a synchronized dual-motor system.

“Otis has been a trusted partner of Incheon International Airport since its opening and has once again demonstrated its commitment to quality and safety. We are impressed by their rigorous and continuous quality management.”
A long-lasting partnership: 650 units installed since 1998
With the expansion of Terminal 2 and the addition of a fourth runway, the airport has further elevated its position as one of the world’s best-connected airports, and now has the capacity to accommodate 106 million passengers and 6.3 million tons of cargo annually.
Otis has supported Incheon International Airport from its creation to its current status as a global hub, installing 301 elevator, escalator, and moving walkway units in Terminal 1 from 1998 to 2001, 177 units from 2005 to 2008, and 172 units in Terminal 2 from 2021 to 2024.
Designing and installing the longest moving walkway in Asia
Our teams in China rose to the challenge of creating Asia's longest moving walkway for Incheon International Airport, drawing on their renowned technical expertise.
Two motors were needed to ensure smooth operation and stable performance across such a length, so the manufacturing team successfully designed a synchronized dual-motor system.
Given its extraordinary size, the 136-meter moving walkway was assembled entirely in the factory for inspection and rigorous quality checks before being dismantled and shipped to the site.
After installation at the airport, the Otis team conducted six additional rounds of quality testing.
As part of this project, our teams set new standards in innovation and safety for large infrastructure hubs.
Incheon International Airport is a testament to how Otis continuously push the boundaries of performance in its transportation solutions for the benefit and success of its customers.

“We are proud of the commitment of all Otis colleagues whose work support making Incheon International Airport one of the best in the world. Our long-standing working relationship is based on excellence and trust.”
