Amie

What did you do before your Otis apprenticeship ?
I worked a few event jobs as a face painter and helped out with an amateur dramatics club. However my full time job was at Mountain Warehouse and although I got on well with the team I didn’t see myself staying in retail.

Was it straightforward to apply for an Otis Apprenticeship?
Absolutely, I applied online on the Jersey government page with my CV and personal statement.

What have you most enjoyed about working at Otis?
I like that I am out and about, not restricted to an office and have freedom of working all over the island. I like that there is always opportunity to learn and progress my career if I want to. I have enjoyed learning a new trade and meeting new people.

How did you feel you fitted in at Otis?
I struggled a bit in the beginning with being shy and the only woman in the team was a bit daunting, but I quickly found that all the guys I work with are all great people. They look out for each other and made me feel like part of the team, and if I need help I know they will be there for me.

What are you looking forward to following completion of your programme?
I am looking forward to being able to solve problems on my own, gain experience and put into practice what I have been learning over the course of three years.

What advice would you give anyone considering an apprenticeship with Otis?
Just go for it. You get to learn an interesting trade where there will always be interesting work and you get to meet lots of new people. It’s different every day, some days are nice and easy and others are a bit more busy, but your team will always have your back and help when they can.
