Connecting sustainably

At Otis, we understand that sustainability-related programs and practices benefit our business, customers and communities, and make us more resilient when faced with environmental challenges impacting our business or industry

By continuously innovating to reduce the environmental impact of our products, services and operations, we not only improve our own efficiency, profitability and competitive advantage, but also deliver superior value to our customers.

Climate transition plan

To build resiliency and strengthen the operational efficiency of our business and supply chain, we have implemented a climate transition plan focused on energy management and operational efficiency across our factories, real estate portfolio and fleet.

By ranking and scoring our suppliers on environmental matters, we can mitigate potential business disruptions and increased costs helping to ensure a more responsible and resilient supply chain. And our fleet strategy relies on assessing fleet effectiveness and operational efficiency, evaluating the right types of vehicles for our business and implementing enhanced route optimization.

Product Stewardship

We believe investing in R&D, and digital and strategic initiatives to create more efficient products and features improves the overall health and sustainability of buildings and is responsive to increasing customer demand for more sustainable products to meet building efficiency codes and goals. For example, installing elevators with the Otis ReGen drive and standby technology helps to minimize our customers’ energy consumption. In addition, through modernization, we are leveraging digitalization and energy efficient technologies, helping customers to upgrade to a more efficient elevator system and significantly reduce energy costs.

We also publish Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) on the environmental impacts of our products throughout their lifecycle, helping customers make procurement decisions.

A Reimagined Timber Hoistway Helps Complete Customer Project

The innovative seven-story, 423,452-square-foot office building T3 Junction presented a unique challenge for the Otis team: Rather than a concrete hoistway, Otis was trusted to install eight Gen2® elevators within a timber hoistway.

The result is a custom solution built entirely from massive timber pillars and specialized plates that allow the elevator to be safely secured within the wood framing.
