Otis celebrates opening of the Otis Korea Manufacturing & Engineering Center

A one-stop center to integrate development, design and quality testing to boost efficiency in operations and customer experience

Positioned as Asia-Pacific hub to support IoT-connected elevator R&D

Incheon, KOREA, June 20, 2019 – Today, Otis Korea celebrates the completion of its Otis Korea Manufacturing & Engineering Center in Songdo District in the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ), which will soon begin operations. Spanning over an area of 15,600 sqm, this new Center will replace the Otis Korea R&D and production facilities previously located in separate cities – Seoul, Incheon, and Changwon. Otis, the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Over 100 invited guests and Otis employees participated in a celebration ceremony, together with senior Otis executives, including President & CEO Judy Marks, Asia Pacific President Stephane de Montlivault and Korea VP & Managing Director IS Cho. Key representatives from public organizations namely Jong-Hyeon Park, Director of Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Pyung-ryun Yu, Vice Commissioner of IFEZ Authority, Young-kee Kim, President of Korea Elevator Safety Agency also joined the celebration.

The Otis Korea Manufacturing & Engineering Center will be an R&D hub for Otis in Asia Pacific. The center will support digital research as well as support the company’s work on connected elevators.

The facilities will accommodate production lines for core components enabled by the latest technology, such as elevator controllers. With engineering and manufacturing facilities co-located within the Center, Otis Korea expects faster development, design, and quality testing with enhanced synergy between its technology and product development teams encouraging faster customer response for service and installation.
