WHO WE ARE
Your Vision, Our Passion Lifting you Up
We succeed by being a good corporate citizen
With customers in approximately 200 countries and territories, Otis is a true global citizen. Everywhere we do business, we operate on the belief that financial performance and corporate responsibility go hand in hand.
We see corporate citizenship as both an ethical responsibility and a business imperative – and embrace the idea that to do well, we must also do good. It’s why we invest in our local communities, encourage employee volunteerism, aim to minimize our environmental footprint, nurture a workplace culture of diversity and inclusion, and uphold the highest standards of safety, ethics and quality.
As we strive to give people freedom to connect and thrive in a taller, faster, smarter world, we’re also committed to making life better everywhere we do business.
Building robots and careers
Otis has sponsored FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) teams for more than 20 years. It currently supports 11 FIRST teams across the U.S. and Canada as their students build robots and learn STEM skills. The company offers grants for teams with at least one Otis employee mentor.
In the 2020-2021 season, Otis also sponsored Equity and Access grants, which support school districts with majority populations of underserved, underrepresented and vulnerable youth by providing grants for establishing and expanding their FIRST programs.
Educating tomorrow’s engineers
Hong Kong employees educate local children and help them discover their potential through the "The Little Engineer" program.
“The Little Engineer” was founded in 2010 to prepare students with the knowledge and experience needed to pursue a career in the STEM field. This is done by pairing employee mentors with local students to teach the students technical engineering skills.
As part of the program, Otis volunteers recently opened a STEM-focused section in the library at the C.C.C. Heep Woh Primary School in Hong Kong SAR.
Supporting athletes who win big
Around the world, Otis employees enthusiastically support the athletes of the Special Olympics, which provides year-round sports training for children and adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Some employees serve as coaches in sports such as alpine skiing and snowboarding, basketball, race walking and soccer. Others help to raise funds to support the athletes’ endeavors.
Recently, a team of Otis France employees spent a cumulative total of 4 weeks trying to cover as much distance as possible as part of the Special Olympics Connected Solidarity challenge.
Thinking green to grow a brighter future
Throughout the Asia Pacific region and China, Otis employees participate in an Otis program that enhances children’s learning environments. The program does so by building or renovating educational facilities and offering classroom lessons that teach students with special needs, about the benefits of environmental stewardship.
This program began in 2011 and has since benefited thousands of children in primary schools across China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Recently, Otis employees spent a day at Shanghai’s Qing Cong Quan Training Center for Children with Special Needs, to repair the facility and meet the children. Employee volunteers also delivered water dispensers, ceiling fans and other supplies to a rural school in Lopburi, Thailand.
We are better together
We are a community of 71,000 colleagues. By geography, race, gender or any other dimension you would look at, our workforce reflects the diversity of our customer base and the markets in which we operate. That’s a compelling reason to subscribe to the notion that the “best idea wins,” regardless of its point of origin. The combined engagement and ideation of our diverse community are a powerful force. At Otis, our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a valuable role in helping us attract, retain and develop this diverse community.
These employee-led groups provide mentoring, mutual support and more, based on the unique interests and needs of their membership. They are important communities within our larger organization. An estimated 2,000 Otis employees around the world participate in ERG activities. FORWARD, for example, supports women working as field professionals, offering mentoring and apprentice programs in what has traditionally been a male-dominated profession. Open to both women and men, FORWARD membership has grown to more than 500 since it was established in 2016. Other ERGs include HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Leadership and Advancement); PRIDE (LGBTQ+ community); WAVE (Asian & Pacific Islander professionals and allies); Momentum (focus on African Americans); WIN and WIF (supporting women); Abilities (focus on people with disabilities); and Elevet (focus on veterans). .
VISONARY LEADERSHIP
Our talented employees engineer and develop products and services that create smart, sustainable solutions for a rapidly urbanizing world. We improve the quality of life for people around the world while limiting our environmental impact. Over the past 21 years, our factories have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1 million metric tons and reduced our water use by 3 billion gallons, and brought innovative thinking to the prevention of workplace injuries — all during a period of unparalleled growth in our business. Our investments in civic, cultural, economic and social welfare organizations enhance our community well being. And, through global volunteerism, we mentor young people and nurture the next generation of inventors, scientists, business professionals. We are committed to doing big things in good ways.
