Otis Helps Huachuang Group Build Changsha’s Tallest Skyscraper

Otis Elevator China Co Ltd. will provide elevators and escalators for Huachuang International Plaza, now under construction as the tallest skyscraper in Changsha. Developer Huachuang Group will use Otis high-rise and GeN2® elevators to efficiently transport people within the 300-meter building, providing maximum ride comfort, safety and substantial energy savings. Otis is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

An investment project initiated by the Changsha Municipal Government, Huachuang International Plaza is an integrated high-end complex. Huachuang Group, a major commercial real estate developer in China’s heartland, has also begun construction of Huachuang International Plazas in Hebei, Henan and Hunan, with 20 of the high-rise developments planned to be built across China by 2022.

“Huachuang Group is committed to developing high-quality buildings to contribute to China’s ongoing economic and social development. We are pleased to work with Otis in this endeavor. The advanced high-rise products and energy-saving technology from Otis will help us build the modern, green projects that are the future of China,” said Jin Guoqing, president, Huachuang Group.

Changsha Huachuang International Plaza will feature Otis GeN2 elevators with ReGen™ drives, which conserve energy and return it to the electrical grid, thus reducing energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared with traditional elevators with conventional drives.

“Otis has years of experience in serving the world’s tallest skyscrapers and we are honored to devote our expertise to helping Huachuang make this new landmark a success,” said Tony Black, president, Otis Elevator (China) Investment Co. Ltd. “We will remain focused on providing quality products and services tailored to China as urbanization and economic growth continue to drive the building boom.”

Otis introduced the gearless traction elevator in 1903, making high-rise buildings practical and ushered in the era of the modern skyscraper. In the past 100 years, eight of the 10 buildings that have held the title of “world’s tallest building” have relied on Otis elevators, including the current record holder, the 828-meter Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates, the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center and the 452-meter Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In support of the enormous high-rise market in China, Otis has established its Global High-rise Contract Logistics Center (“Otis High Rise Elevator (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.”) in Shanghai, which aims to provide expert consultancy and project management support to high-rise buildings in China and around the world.

Founded in 1998, Huachuang Group develops commercial real estate with a commitment to quality and innovation. It has built many famous commercial landmarks in the Hunan, Hubei and Henan, Hebei provinces, and beyond. In 2013, Huachuang Group was named a “Top 30 China Commercial Real Estate Company.”

Attending the signing ceremony were: Tony Black; Zhu Pengxuan, regional operation director, Otis Central China Department; Zhou Zhiqiang, service and operation director, Otis Central China Department; Jin Saihua, chairman, Huachuang Group; Jin Guoqing; Ning Yiqun, vice president, Huachuang Group; and Shi Xuehua, inspector and vice president, Hunan Association of Industry and Commerce.
