LONDON, May 22, 2018- Otis UK & Ireland has won a contract from luxury developers The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Limited, HSH, to supply and install a suite of high-end bespoke Gen2® Stream elevators within The Peninsula London complex on Hyde Park Corner, set to open in 2021. Otis, the world’s leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
Otis will provide 27 passenger and 10 platform elevators with high quality finishes and variable geometry cars to create a unique vertical transportation experience inside the hotel.
Designed by Hopkins Architects, The Peninsula London is a 190-room hotel and will include 24-28 residential apartments with separate leisure and spa facilities, reception and entrance. In addition to guestrooms and suites, the hotel will have its own spa and leisure facilities, meeting spaces, shops, bars, restaurants and a ballroom. A grand pedestrian entrance on Grosvenor Place will be accessed from a colonnade linking to an internal ‘Palazzo-style’ courtyard.
The elevators will be sourced from Otis’ factory in Gien, France. With a capacity to carry a maximum of 26 people and travelling at a top speed of 1.75 metres per second, the Gen2 Stream elevators will have customised interiors created in partnership with the hotel’s architects. The Gen2 Stream system’s compact lift components fit inside the hoistway and eliminate the need for a machine room and frees up floor space for the design vision behind The Peninsula London.
